Servant Evangelism

Thanks be to God who always leads us in triumphal procession in Christ and through us spreads everywhere the fragrance of the knowledge of Him."

2 Cor 2:14

Not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart

Eph 6:6

Servant Evangelism is a great way to let our community know the love of God in a practical, non threatening way. We periodically give away cokes, popsicles, etc or have a free car wash to let our community know we're doing this 'just because God loves them'.

What benefit is there to servant evangelism? Outreaches impact two sets of people, those we serve and us. We are able to plant seeds of God’s kindness into people’s heart before they know what hit them. We live in such a cynical society today, where we regularly hear people say, “Nothing’s free!” Here we are, offering truly free things to people. This challenges them, and causes them to think about who this God is that we serve. Many of those we serve might have never considered the love of God, apart from our project. That is our goal, and we have seen some wonderful fruit from these projects.

The other exciting part of reaching out is what it does in us. In this process of touching our community and enjoying it, we become more outward focused. It is suddenly not about us anymore, but about sharing the good news of the kingdom of God.

Finally, those who serve together, grow together. There is a dynamic that takes place when a group of people accomplish a goal together that cannot take place any other way. We will be able to share the stories and experiences of giving away the kindness of God, and this will bring a fresh excitement to our kinship meetings.

A Story of Encouragement

During our very first free car wash several years ago, this guy pulls in to have his truck washed. While it’s being washed, he begins talking with one of our hosts. He shares how his family lives here in Phoenix, but he works up in Prescott building some bridges. His wife is about to leave him, and he doesn’t know what to do. We pray for him, inviting the Holy Spirit. Some prophetic words are given to him, that his family will be restored, and that he will find a job in the area that will be a blessing to him.

That right there is great, but there’s more. Two summers ago this same guy pulls in to another free car wash we’re doing and recognizes us right away. He begins crying as he tells use that he went home after the car wash and his wife told him that she wasn’t going to leave. Two weeks after that, he found a new job here in Phoenix. Since starting that job, he has had several significant raises. We hug, we praise God, and then…we wash his truck again. This man’s life was transformed, and it all started with a free car wash.
